This Privacy Policy explains how Talim K12, Inc. ("Talim," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our mobile applications, website (talimk12.com), administrator dashboard (dash.talimk12.com), and account portal (app.talimk12.com) (collectively, the "Service").
The short version: we collect what we need to give you a professional development record that follows you for your career. We do not sell individual teacher data. We never collect data about students. If anything in this policy isn't clear, email hello@talimk12.com.
1. What we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information. Your name, email address, and authentication identifiers (such as Apple ID or Google account ID, if you use those sign-in methods).
- Profile information. Optional details you choose to add — your school affiliation, district, state, grade level, subject area, and annual professional development goal.
- Activity data. Records of the professional development activities you log: title, type, date, hours, provider, format, notes, and any approval status.
- Uploaded files. Certificates, sign-in sheets, syllabi, or other documents you choose to attach to your activities as evidence.
- Device and usage information. Basic technical data needed to operate the Service: device type, operating system version, app version, IP address, and crash logs.
2. How we use it
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the Service — record your activities, generate reports, and sync data across your devices.
- Authenticate you and protect your account from unauthorized access.
- Communicate with you about your account, service updates, and (only with your consent) optional product news.
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Service, including diagnosing and fixing bugs.
- If your school or district has an active Talim subscription and you have explicitly connected your account to them, share the activity data you choose to submit to them.
3. What we don't do
- We do not sell individual teacher data. Not now, not at any future point. This is a foundational commitment.
- We do not run advertising on the Service or share your data with advertising networks.
- We do not collect, store, or process student data. Talim is a tool for adult professionals tracking their own professional development; it is not a student information system.
- We do not share your individual record with your school, district, or anyone else without your explicit action (such as submitting an activity for approval).
4. Third-party services
We rely on a small number of third-party providers to operate the Service. These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy commitments:
- Supabase — database hosting and user authentication.
- Resend — sending transactional email (account verification, approval notifications, password resets).
- Cloudflare — content delivery, hosting, and security for our websites.
We do not share your data with any third party for their own marketing or advertising purposes.
5. Data retention
We retain your account and activity data for as long as your account is active. Your professional development record is designed to follow you for your entire career, so we do not delete it on a schedule. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information and activity records from our active systems within 30 days, with a longer retention period only for backups (which are themselves deleted within 90 days).
Aggregate, de-identified data — for example, total hours logged across all users by category — may be retained indefinitely for product analytics and reporting. This data cannot be tied back to any individual.
6. Your rights
You have the following rights with respect to your data:
- Access. View all of the data we hold about you, directly within the app.
- Export. Download a complete copy of your professional development record as a PDF or structured data file at any time.
- Correction. Edit any of your profile or activity data directly within the app.
- Deletion. Delete your account and all associated personal data. Account deletion is available without the app installed at app.talimk12.com. We recommend exporting your data first.
- Portability. Your record is yours. You can export it and take it with you whenever you choose.
If you are a resident of a jurisdiction with additional data-protection rights (such as California, Virginia, or the European Union), those rights apply to you in addition to the above. Contact us at hello@talimk12.com to exercise them.
7. Children's privacy (COPPA)
Talim is for adults age 18 and older. The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has used Talim, please contact us at hello@talimk12.com.
8. Accessibility
Talim is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. If you encounter accessibility barriers in the Service, please email hello@talimk12.com and we will work with you to resolve them.
9. Security
We use industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect the data we collect — including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your data with the seriousness a professional record deserves.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify you by email or through an in-app notice before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after a change indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
